This class is the beginning of the professional finance specialist series, performing work under general supervision with limited latitude for independent action.Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesProcesses claims and invoices, accurately calculates and records amounts.Prepares bank deposits and/or checks.Performs routine posting and adjusting to ledger.Identifies and corrects own routine posting errors.Classifies/codes according to a chart of accounts.Prepares and processes journal vouchers.Performs reconciliations of data, batch reports, bank reconciliations, etc.Maintains accounting records; gathers data and prepares financial statements and reports.Contacts associates, administrators, and the general public to obtain information, discuss changes, or resolve routine problems with accounts.Duties require routine and specific operations involving multiple tasks or procedures.Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.Required Skills and KnowledgeKnowledge of organizational structure, chain of command, and functions of the Department of Transportation.Knowledge of records processing and maintenance procedures and systems.Ability to follow established rules, regulations, standards, and guidelines with accuracy in a timely manner.Ability to operate standard computer programs and agency-specific software.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to independently carry out assignments.Ability to interact with co-workers and agency employees to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Required Education and ExperienceREQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.Substitution: Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, budget, or business may be substituted for the required training/education through an established formula.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: No experience required for this position.Promotional Only: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a Transportation Financial Associate.Agency: West Virginia Department of Transportation (WV)Phone: 304-558-3111Website: https://transportation.wv.govDivision: West Virginia Department of TransportationAddress: 1900 Kanawha Blvd, East, Building 5, Room A-450, Charleston, West Virginia, 25305 #J-18808-Ljbffr
