Research Assistants (AR) - Environmental and Applied Botany (Prof.ssa Wellstein, Camilla)The Free University of Bozen/Bolzano was founded on 31 October 1997 as a multilingual, internationally oriented institution.
Research Activity Description: This interdisciplinary research project concerns the interaction between heavy rainfall events and riverside vegetation in mountain areas.
Such events are increasing under climate change and affect protected areas as well as anthropogenically altered river systems.
The AR research assistant will utilize field and lab work, vegetation mapping, biodiversity analysis, and modeling.
He/she will analyze the impact of past, current, and possible future scenarios of heavy rainfall events on vegetation, plant functional diversity, and ecosystem functions.
Considering the complex interaction between natural events, protected areas, anthropogenic impact, and the responses of ecosystems, the AR research assistant will contribute to developing management and conservation strategies for riverine and stream habitats in the alpine environment.
