We are continuously growing and we are looking for a professional Data Scientist – Environmental Emissions and Machine Learning Specialist to join our UniQue Ispra team.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our customers in the public sector and you will be responsible for developing new business by identifying profitable opportunities, maintaining your client portfolio by building strong, long-lasting relationships, and monitoring the progress of the projects, with the aim to provide excellent client service and added value services.
What will you be bringing to the team?
Main tasks will be related with data science, in particular with the application of machine learning and AI techniques for the development of short-term emission projections, update of the EDGAR database, data analysis and processing.
Support the update of the EDGAR database with activity data and emission factors for all sectors at the EU and global level; Support the update of the LULUCF component in the database including the spatial component.
Support the development of high-resolution spatial proxies used to downscale national emissions making use of Geographical Information Systems; Drafting of technical and scientific documents; Ensure the quality checks on the updated database and products to be delivered to policy of the European Institution and all EDGAR international customers; Develop the EDGAR database moving from a territorial perspective to a consumption based approach.
What do you need to succeed in this position?
Experience in the provision of technical evaluations; Experience in quality assessment, data quality assurance and trend analysis; Capacity to write clear and structured technical documentation; Experience with high level programming languages (e.g.
Python, R); Experience in geo-spatial analysis using Geographical Information Systems (QGIS, ArcMap); Knowledge of and experience in integrating and updating international statistics and data mining; Desirable requirements are: Experience with ML and AI possibly related to environmental issues (time series analysis, emissions etc.
); Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA); Knowledge and experience of the EDGAR database for global GHG and air pollutant emission inventories; Knowledge of emission or air pollution or emissions inventories or more in general familiarity with environmental issues; Knowledge of IPCC standards and guidelines for emission of green-house gases and their uncertainties; Ability to understand, speak and write English (B2).
