Reuters News & Media is looking for a dynamic and talented Visuals Journalist to join our Italy team based in Milan.
You will be a talented photojournalist with proven ability to shoot and edit video.
We are looking for a team player and a self-starter with plenty of initiative to generate story ideas and inject a creative approach to storytelling.
You will have a good understanding of the news agenda in Italy - from politics and religion to sport and entertainment, to culture and new business.
You will have excellent communication skills, an unflappable temperament, and a passion for newsgathering and visual storytelling.
An ability to network and develop relationships with officials and important contacts that will result in access and fair treatment is crucial.
The scope of the role ranges from the delivery of the fastest, differentiated images of breaking news and events in the most competitive circumstances, to the creation of structured pictures or multimedia stories, either as an individual or as part of a wider regional or global team.

**As our trusted Visuals Journalist, you will**:
- React fast to breaking news, including an ability to provide live video coverage, and a willingness to travel on assignments, sometimes at short notice
- Be proactive in identifying, pitching and producing in-depth stories around the news, through pictures and video, with an awareness of trends in and requirements of digital audiences
- Produce top quality coverage in Italy, working in close collaboration with Reuters photo and video staff as well as editors on the Global Pictures Desk, to contribute highly competitive pictures and video to the Reuters News wire for global subscribers
- Be responsible for coverage of planned events, sports and news, and maintain and update the client-facing news diary
- Coordinate assignments with multimedia teams
- Ensure safety newsgathering protocols are followed
**To be our Visuals Journalist, you will likely have**:
- A proven track record of winning the big stories
- Excellent photojournalism and editing skills proven by at last 5 years work experience as a full-time photojournalist
- Experience in sports photography
- A sharp eye for visual elements that are needed to make a good pictures and video story
- Basic knowledge of shooting and editing video material
- An understanding of wire service clients and market needs both domestically and internationally
- Excellent news judgment as well as a good knowledge of Italian politics and government
- The ability to tell stories through multimedia, producing picture/video packages and picture stories as well as capturing individual defining moments
- A thorough understanding of the latest digital visual technologies for photographing, filming, editing, transmitting, and sharing
- A unique "eye" able to compose interesting pictures on the fly and produce a well-rounded report of pictures during fast changing news events
- Experience and ability to compete at the highest level working under high pressure against tight deadlines, transmitting photos on the run via wifi, cellular modems and satellite phones
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in team environments
- Ability to write clear, error-free captions and video scripts
- Basic experience with flying drones is also preferred (but not essential)
- Italian language skills are preferred (but not essential)
