Role Overview: Lead Project Development: Manage Project Development from start to Ready to Build, focusing on BOO projects (permitting, grid interconnection, site control). Work with Tolling Origination, Finance teams, and Regional Business Development.
Standardize Processes: Ensure consistent BOO procedures across regions and projects, empowering local teams to manage tasks independently.
Project Coordination: Work with sales and business development to qualify, evaluate, and de-risk projects as they progress.
Manage Third-Party Developers: Build long-term relationships with third-party developers and develop Joint Development Agreements with regional business developers.
Supervise Project Managers: Directly manage Project Development Managers in key areas.
Budget and Risk Management: Define and manage development budgets, assess risks, and ensure internal approval for investments.
Key Responsibilities: Site Control:
Select and finalize sites.
Secure site control through negotiations with landowners or customers.
Coordinate with Corporate Development for site acquisitions if needed.
Permitting:
Oversee permitting to secure necessary approvals, including environmental and construction permits.
Identify and mitigate project blockers.
Manage relationships with authorities and communities.
Select consultants and contractors to reduce project risks.
Manage reputational risks in project development.
Grid Interconnection:
Oversee grid interconnection processes.
Define roles and responsibilities for securing connections.
Collaborate with third parties and teams for appropriate grid solutions.
Set realistic timelines for grid interconnection.
Ensure effective communication and management with other BOO team members for Financial Close, including tolling pricing and contract negotiation.
Qualification: Extensive experience in project development, taking renewable and power generation projects from concept to Ready to Build.
Leading projects to financial close is a significant advantage.
Engineering degree or substantial experience in a technical project development environment.
At least 10 years in the energy sector, including energy storage, renewables (solar, wind, hydro), or conventional power (e.g., thermal).
Budget management and ability to handle schedule trade-offs.
Strong skills in managing development partners, negotiating land titles, securing grid interconnections, obtaining permits, and negotiating tolling or power purchase agreements.
Proficient in project risk management, with attention to detail.
Experience in a technology scaleup is a plus.
Ability to create processes, procedures, and playbooks to establish best practices across the firm.
