Offer Description Bacterial biofilms are one of the most widely distributed forms of living matter on Earth and they mediate biochemical processes in water, natural and synthetic porous media. A full comprehension of biofilm life-cycle and its connection to hydrodynamics are still missing due to the broad range of space and time scales involved: from µm (microorganisms interaction) to dm (size of a representative elementary volume); from seconds (bacterial attachment) to days (biofilm growth). This poses severe constraints on the applicability of numerical modeling tools to scenarios of practical interest. In the context of the project MOBIOS, the current research fellowship program will be aimed at developing an upscaling framework to transfer the results of pore-scale numerical models to scales relevant to engineering applications (e.g. design of membranes, groundwater resources management).
Eligibility Criteria Relevance of qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate close relevance of their qualifications and publications to the research programme.
Interview: An interview will be conducted to ascertain the candidate's aptitude for the research object of the selection.
Eligibility of fellows:
Country/ies of residence: All
Nationality/ies: All
