Job Overview As the Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning Group Leader / Senior Project Manager, you will play a critical role in managing and expanding DEA's Smart Mobility practice in Denver. You will be responsible for supervising staff, developing the team, managing short- and long-term workloads, and ensuring technical excellence in project delivery. This is a unique opportunity to shape a growing team and contribute to the advancement of intelligent and sustainable transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities Group Leader Responsibilities: Lead and deliver technical work for the Colorado Smart Mobility team. Mentor and train junior and mid-level staff on career development, project management, and technical expertise. Foster a functional, efficient, and enjoyable work environment as part of the Colorado office leadership team. Manage performance, including time off, timecards, expense reports, and training approvals. Collaborate with Smart Mobility Group Leaders across DEA's diverse business units to fulfill project and business development opportunities. Drive successful recruitment and retention efforts to ensure DEA hires and retains top talent. Learn client standards and expectations, identify new business opportunities, and provide inputs for scopes, schedules, and budgets.
Project Manager Responsibilities: Manage transportation engineering and planning projects, including conceptual design and planning of intersection improvements, multimodal facilities, and transportation corridors. Ensure project deliverables are on time, on budget, and meet or exceed industry standards. Work with the Colorado Market Leader to manage resources and complete project commitments. Provide leadership and guidance in traffic design and transportation planning. Review engineering documents and deliverables for compliance with contractual and professional standards. Adhere to firmwide tools, processes, and policies, including project accounting, contracting, and quality requirements.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, or a related field. Professional Engineering (PE) License for engineers or AICP Certification for planners (preferred but not necessary). 8-12 years of professional experience in engineering or planning, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or project management role. Proven leadership experience in providing feedback, coaching, and team management. Strong ability to generate work, manage transportation projects, lead a team, and perform technical QA. Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
Desired Qualifications Project experience with Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), City and County of Denver, and other local agencies. Master's degree in traffic engineering or transportation planning.
