Thesis Proposal: Control Development for Hydrogen Test Bench for Electrolysis with Improved Capability
The Centre for Sustainable Energy is looking for a young student interested in carrying out a master's thesis experience with the title: "Control development for Hydrogen test bench for Electrolysis with improved capability".
This master's thesis presents the development of a control system for a test bench dedicated to the testing of Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzers. The system will include the development of a state machine, an alarm machine, control loops, and the control architecture, as well as collaboration on the development of a HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study).
Planned Activities: The project will focus on the design and implementation of a control system capable of managing and monitoring the operation of an AEM electrolyzer test bench in strict collaboration with technicians in FBK. The system will consist of several subsystems, including:
State machine: Controls the flow of the electrolyzer test, transitioning from one phase to another based on predefined conditions and signals received from sensors.Alarm machine: Monitors critical system parameters and generates alarms in case of malfunctions or hazardous conditions.Control loops: Automatically adjusts the operating parameters of the electrolyzer, such as current, voltage, and temperature.Control architecture: Defines the overall organization of the control system, including communication between the different subsystems and the user interface. The student will join in a HAZOP analysis with the H2 team to identify potential hazards and their associated causes associated with the control system. The analysis will lead to the implementation of safety measures to mitigate the identified risks.
Requirements: Enrolled in master's degree in Energy Engineering, or equivalent;Familiarity with controls;Good knowledge of physics;Good knowledge on modeling dynamic and steady state and optimization;Basic programming skills. How to Apply: All interested parties are asked to fill out the online form by clicking on "Apply Online" in the "Internship opportunities" section, attaching the following documents in .pdf format:
