Position SummaryThe TESS light curve analyst will work 20 hours per week on TESS GI research grants over the next twelve months. Services will focus on producing estimates of orbital properties of eclipsing binaries observed with the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. A successful candidate will be in charge of determining orbital eccentricities and periastron arguments for all discovered TESS eclipsing binary stars.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe TESS light curve analyst will produce a computational model of NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) field and the census of eclipsing binary stars to determine their orbital eccentricities and arguments of periastra. The result of this work will be used to expand the catalog of TESS binaries hosted by Villanova at http://tessEBs.villanova.edu. The work will be disseminated in the peer-reviewed literature.
The analyst will provide weekly progress reports to the Principal Investigator of the grant and the two will meet regularly throughout the course of the project. The analyst will work both at Villanova and remotely.
Minimum QualificationsActive graduate student enrolled in a PhD program in Astrophysics.
