Center for Sensing Solutions Short description of the position: Eurac Research is an interdisciplinary research center located in Bolzano, Italy. At the Center for Sensing Solutions (CSS), we develop tailor-made solutions for research and industry, from using sensors for data collection to the analysis and exploitation of the collected data in the form of web applications or services.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the Horizon Europe project TRANS-SAHARA. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a robust data management system as well as the Agroforestry Intervention Design Tool, a novel tool designed to assist in agroforestry intervention decision-making. In particular, the tool will provide dashboards and visualization widgets tailored to the specific needs of use case studies, ensuring user-friendly access to a non-technical audience.
Tasks: Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive data management system to support the TRANS-SAHARA project. Create and refine the Agroforestry Intervention Design Tool, enabling effective decision-making for agroforestry interventions. Collaborate with project partners and stakeholders to ensure alignment of technical solutions with project goals. Perform data analysis and visualization to support research and project outcomes. Maintain and update software systems to ensure reliability and performance. Implement regular review cycles to assess the platform's performance, usability, and impact, adjusting development priorities based on stakeholder feedback. Document software design, development processes, and guidelines. Requirements: Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience in Web application development, with a focus on data management and analytic systems. Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++. Good knowledge of Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, InfluxDB, MongoDB). Experience in working with REST APIs tools and debuggers (PostGrest, swagger, postman, testim, django). Experience with stream processing tools for IoT systems, experience with NodeRED is a plus. Experience in developing decision support tools, model and data-driven applications. Experience with Linux OS and basic system administration to configure secure front-end and back-end applications. Experience in the use of version control software (e.g., Github and Gitlab). Ability to work independently and in a team. Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Proficiency in English; knowledge of German and/or Italian is an advantage. (optional) Experience in time-series analysis and forecasting is considered a plus. Knowledge and experience in GIS analysis with tools such as GIS, QGIS is considered a plus. Familiarity with agroforestry concepts is a plus. Experience in semantic data integration is desirable, demonstrating proficiency in semantic technologies, such as RDF, OWL, and SPARQL, enhancing the quality and accessibility of data.
