OpeningFull Time 40 hours Range URG 113 LLE-Laboratory for Laser EnergeticsSchedule8:30 AM-5:30 PMResponsibilitiesPOSITION SUMMARY:Seeking an experienced laser engineer to lead the design of a state-of-the-art optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) system for the NSF OPAL design project awarded to the University of Rochester at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (UR/LLE).
The project will design a new, world-leading, high-power laser user facility with two 25-PW lasers coupled to OMEGA EP to achieve and study extreme physical conditions.RESPONSIBILITIES:Project management coordinating a diverse support team of laser, mechanical, controls, and software engineersDevelop project requirements, schedules, and budgetsCommunicate results through formal design reviewsDevelop innovative solutions to difficult design challengesOptical modeling and design of broadband laser systemsQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree and 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experienceESSENTIAL SKILLS:Experience managing a complex technical projectExcellent verbal and written communicationProficiency with the design, construction, and integration of OPCPA systemsStrong interpersonal skills working in a team-based environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software applicationsPREFERRED SKILLS:Experience with optical modeling software (Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V)Experience with opto-mechanical, electrical, controls, vacuum systemsThe University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the University's mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better.
