Position summary: The position will be a key contributor to the Global Privacy Office by advising the organization on data protection matters and developing creative solutions to enable the business to grow and develop in its use of data The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with global privacy laws, regulations, and standards, and will be able to navigate often difficult legal issues and provide practical advice to the business. Key responsibilities and functions: The primary responsibility of the Senior Manager, Privacy role is to help ensure the organization follows privacy and data protection laws around the world. They must have the capacity to work independently, be confident in front of senior colleagues, as well as positively engaging in team initiatives. As such, this position will: Advise on global data protection laws, regulations, and standards to help ensure compliance across the organization. Recognize privacy-related issues and identify creative solutions to enable the Thermo Fisher Scientific business to grow and develop in its use of data. Work with senior colleagues from Privacy, Legal, Information Security and the business in mapping the processing of patient-related information in the company and assist in the creation of risk-based compliance solutions Work positively with other members of the Global Privacy Office in team-based work and projects. Develop, maintain, and update privacy procedures, notices, authorization forms, and other documentation for the accurate processing of personal data by assigned business areas. Review Thermo Fisher's data protection agreements with clients and vendors. Handle, monitor, track and maintain business requests within the organization's privacy management tool powered by TrustArc. Assist the Privacy-by-Design team by working closely with cross-functional teams, including legal, IT, and security, to ensure the Global Privacy Office is coordinated with business processes and systems. Educate and train employees on data protection and privacy policies and procedures. Keep up to date with changes in data protection law and regulations and provide advice on their impact on the business. Requirements / qualifications: Education Juris Doctorate degree. Current license to practice law in at least one state or jurisdiction. Experience Minimum of 7 years proven experience in handling global privacy and data protection requirements. Specific experience in the practical application of data protection requirements in the life sciences industry. Solid understanding of global privacy laws, regulations, and standards. Proven record of demonstrating the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously. Self-starter and ability to work independently on sophisticated matters with little supervision. Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate legal issues to a non-expert audience.
