Radformation is seeking a self-directed Senior Applied Research Scientist to join our innovative and fast moving team. This role is ideal for someone who wishes to develop novel radiotherapy algorithms and use their skills to improve cancer care throughout the world. You will work within Radformation's fully remote teams to develop analytical dose calculation algorithms and related radiation oncology software.
The Senior Applied Research Scientist is responsible for all aspects of novel algorithm development, including user research, problem statement and definition, prototyping, defining validation methods, validating proposed solutions, documenting algorithm performance, and translating prototypes into engineered solutions together with our software engineering teams.
Applied Scientists are able to take a solution from concept to product. Your research skills, experience, and knowledge will play a key role in helping us design new products for cancer centers.
**Responsibilities**:
- Take technical ownership of Radformation proprietary dose calculation algorithms.
- Work with research and product teams to create new radiotherapy products and algorithms.
- Test and benchmark Radformation proprietary algorithms against industry standard algorithms.
**Abilities**:
- Strong understanding of programming concepts with experience using a modern language.
- Ability to actively communicate with customers and other staff members
- Ability to aggregate feedback and requests from clinicians to identify general problems solvable through automated methodologies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to think and act strategically and proactively.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
**Required Experience**:
- PhD in related field and at least 5 years experience in Monte Carlo dose calculation algorithm development for Radiotherapy.
- Deep understanding of Monte Carlo simulation methods used for dose calculation in Radiotherapy.
- Deep understanding of traditional dose calculation methods (Pencil Beam, CVSP, etc).
- Able to formulate experiment design and run experiments while developing new algorithms and technology.
- Able to stay current with state-of-the-art algorithmic techniques.
- Experience conceiving, implementing, and maintaining clinically used software solutions
