Cowan International is recruiting a Senior Officer, Technical Interpreter and Coordinator for a world-renowned copper mining company.
Reporting to the Managerial Leader of the Smelter Office, you will coordinate the Smelter Managers' activities and act as an expert Interpreter, translator and coordinator in various occasions to ensure strategy, technical, management outputs are clearly understood by all parties. You will ensure achievement of organisation's objectives by providing expert interpretation, translation, communication and coordination services.
Responsibilities Be the interface between the Smelter managers and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication.Provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation to the Smelter managers in a variety of settings and forums.Attend all routine/standard weekly and project meetings with Smelter managers, interpret and take notes.Act as stand-in for Smelter managers in meetings when not available, take notes and debrief accordingly.Provide expert translation and interpretation services.Respond to the interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.Provide services in-person, via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means.Coordinate Smelter manager activities with relevant internal and external stakeholders and ensure effective office management.Coordinate all travel and accommodation arrangements for guests visiting the Smelter managers.Ensure visitors have all required resources available by coordinating with internal stakeholders.Manage Smelter managers' diary and keep all relevant parties informed.Check, translate and respond to all written correspondence in consultation with Smelter managers.Build professional long-term relationships with stakeholders.Investigate and understand stakeholders needs to enable delivery of a quality service.Manage self and show up as a good team player.Monitor costs or expenses to achieve cost efficiencies and reduce waste and report to Smelter managers.Report on cost usage that reflects delivery of planned work within agreed parameters.Ensure good governance including the effective use of management systems to monitor compliance to business direction and policies.Ensure financial documentation is maintained to support accurate record keeping and future requirements as per legislation.Support transformation in terms of people, automation/ digitisation and sustainability.Ensure implementation of the business Transformation plan in collaboration with the Smelter managers.Adhere to the HSE plan for the Business area and recommend remedial actions where necessary to ensure a Zero Harm workplace.Adhere to and improve reporting processes for the area of responsibility. Requirements A University graduate/Bachelors degree, preferably a Masters degree relevant to Metallurgy or English/French Major.5 years' relevant experience, ideally including an experience in a mining environment.An ability at an expert level to translate complex technical, strategic and business concepts between Chinese and English.An excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential. Swahili and French are advantageous.Knowledge in smelter production, construction and commissioning, with knowledge in mining legislation.Knowledge in Business Acumen and understanding of KCSA business.
