Senior Lecturer in Honors (Humanities or Social Sciences)The Honors College at Texas State University invites applications for a Senior Lecturer in Honors, with a specialty in the Humanities or Social Sciences, to begin in Fall 2024. This is a full-time position with an initial appointment of one year and reappointment contingent upon satisfactory performance review.
Scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply, and we are especially interested in candidates who can offer new and engaging topic-based courses in the following General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) areas: Language, Philosophy, and Culture; American History; Government/Political Science; and Social and Behavioral Sciences. We also strongly encourage applications from scholars whose academic background and teaching interests contribute to our growing minors in African-American Studies, Latina/o Studies, Diversity Studies, Peace and Social Justice Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in the GECC and upper-division courses in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the service mission and intellectual life of the Honors College by leading or creating co-curricular programs in Honors.
About the Honors College:The Honors College allows highly motivated undergraduates in all majors at Texas State to enhance their studies with small, seminar-style courses in an intimate and engaging learning environment. The Honors College takes pride in its strong reputation for student-centered teaching, and courses are taught by some of Texas State's top faculty. These courses include introductory-level seminars that satisfy general education requirements, upper-division courses on advanced topics, self-styled independent study and contract courses, unique study abroad opportunities, and the honors capstone. The Honors College also serves all undergraduates and the university as a whole by supporting undergraduate research through the new IDEA Center, mentoring students applying for national fellowships and graduate programs, and encouraging faculty to develop innovative, interdisciplinary courses.
