Organizational Setting The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) of FAO is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance and policy aspects of FAO's activities related to fisheries and aquaculture. The Division emphasizes human wellbeing, food security, and poverty reduction.
Reporting Lines The Senior Fishery Officer (Fishery Economics) reports to the Senior Fishery Resources Officer/NFIFM Team Leader, Assessment and Management Team.
Technical Focus The Senior Fishery Officer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on integrated fisheries management and assessment in the context of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF). Responsibilities include leading economic analyses related to fisheries management.
Key Functions Plans, manages or leads specialized teams in project implementation.Analyzes global and country-specific requirements to provide critical inputs into the FAO Strategic Framework.Implements and monitors programmes involving evidence-based strategies.Conducts research and analysis to support technical standards and policy advisory services.Provides technical and policy advice to Members and supports capacity development activities.Represents the Organization at international meetings and develops effective working relationships.Specific Functions Leads the development of technical documents on fisheries management with a focus on economic aspects.Co-leads capacity development programmes aimed at improving fisheries management systems.Provides technical advice on sustainable fisheries within a food systems approach.Leads resource mobilization activities in support of sustainable fisheries management.CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Advanced university degree in fisheries management, economics, or related disciplines.Ten years of relevant experience in fisheries economics and management.Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.Technical/Functional Skills Experience in managing multicultural teams.Knowledge of fisheries management frameworks and processes.Experience in capacity development and training-related activities.HOW TO APPLY To apply, visit the recruitment website at Jobs at FAO and complete your online profile.
