General Position Description The Senior Estimator leads bids and helps win highly profitable and constructible projects that have pricing strategies developed to maximize our operational effectiveness, enhance returns, and avoid negative impacts during project execution.
They also help develop opportunities within the regions.
Heavy focus on construction of military buildings, building renovations with secure spaces, hangar buildings/aircraft support spaces, maintenance facilities, operations facilities, and mission critical environments.
Reporting directly to the region's Department Director, the Senior Estimator is responsible for leading and mentoring the estimating team, the oversight and coordination of bid documents, labor productions, subcontractor and vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor relationships, owner estimates, and working with the Operations team on project schedules and risks.
Responsibilities Work with Business Professional Lead to set up bid reviews with Executive and Proposal Team.
Focus on team building and employee growth.
Provide staff training and development.
Review and/or craft bid conditions/clarifications.
Thoroughly review and/or investigate the specifications, scope of work, and drawings of a bid and develop a complete understanding of the requirements.
Act as regional lead for the preconstruction team.
Lead Estimate Teams.
Review and accurately and timely perform and/or delegate takeoffs and calculations and analyze data.
Attend site visits to gather detailed, relevant data on project site conditions and effectively incorporate this information during the bid process.
Develop relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
Attend team kick-off and schedule oversight meetings, red team reviews, and additional estimating reviews.
Establish negotiation strategies to obtain the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure.
Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the contract documents and the potential risks for a project.
Make well-supported recommendations on how to mitigate and price risks to executive management.
Develop pricing strategies.
Qualifications Must be a US Citizen or Citizen of the EU.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology or equivalent degree, experience or a combination thereof.
Ten or more years progressively leading estimating activities with 5 years as a Senior Estimator.
Ten or more years of relevant vertical building construction industry experience with progressively greater responsibilities, preferred.
Good understanding and practice in the different bid delivery methods.
Experience working with the Federal Government and understanding FAR requirements.
Experience with USACE and NAVFAC preferred.
Comprehensive understanding of markets, clients, and competitors.
Deep knowledge of multiple professional types of work and systems.
Successfully led and managed complex bids in excess of $75 million.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills a must.
Entrepreneurial with a well-rounded business perspective.
Solid time management and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.
), P6, On Screen Takeoff (OST) or other digitized software, and plan and spec reading.
Expert knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems and site surveying.
