Senior Engineer I/II, Computational Biology Somerville, Massachusetts, United States Bachelor of Science in computer science, data science, or related field with 5 years of experience (or Masters/3, PhD) applying an engineering discipline to biomedical research, biotechnology, or computational biology at a scientific research institute or in the biotechnology industry. Proficiency in using Python or another modern programming language. Proficiency in SQL and experience in data modeling and database design. Cloud-based software solutions (AWS preferred) and orchestration/integration software (e.g. Dagster, Nextflow). Knowledge of Docker. Software development skills including source control systems and integration/deployment strategies. It's a bonus if you have: Understanding of data management best practices as it relates to biological data. Understanding of modern principles of data analysis as it pertains to computational biology. Experience with lab software Benchling (electronic lab notebooks). Experience with project management tools to track activities (Jira) and create documentation of deliverables (Confluence). You are interested in… Designing and developing databases to store large volume data, to be queried in high-performance and cloud environments. Developing queries to internal genomic databases to answer specific biological questions and generate new hypotheses. Developing computational biology pipelines with leading cloud technologies (i.e. Dagster, Nextflow) and state-of-the-art control systems software and procedures (i.e. CI/CDs, unit tests, etc.). About you: As part of the Computational Biology team within the Data Science department, you will lead the engineering efforts designed by Computational Biologists to solve targeted scientific biological questions. You will closely collaborate with Data Engineering and Software Engineering teams to deploy your solutions on AWS. Your expertise will be critical for integrating the technologies we use and developing strategic tools that support our research in clinical investigations.
