Institute for Renewable Energy Short description of the position: The Photovoltaic Energy Systems group at the Institute of Renewable Energy is seeking a skilled researcher with expertise in power systems modelling, optimization, and control with a focus on distributed energy resources (DERs).
This role is part of our grid integration team, addressing the challenges of incorporating renewable energy into modern power grids.
As the energy system evolves with the growing adoption of renewable energy sources, particularly photovoltaics, and the increasing electrification of heating and transport sectors increase, the need for flexible grid solutions becomes essential to facilitate the integration of DERs and optimize infrastructure investment.
Tasks: Develop advanced models for the optimal planning and integration of renewable energy, particularly photovoltaics, into power systems.
Design innovative congestion management strategies using PV and load power forecasting to enhance grid reliability.
Propose innovative strategies based on PV and load power forecasting for congestion management to improve grid operativity.
Analyze electricity market to propose flexibility services based on RES and storage technologies.
Use cutting-edge tools and equipment for experimental verification.
Contribute to research and innovation projects on grid integration challenges.
Write technical reports and scientific publications.
Support in writing project proposal and the supervision of bachelor's and master's students.
Requirements: Education: Preferably, a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering or other closely related topics.
Alternatively, a Master's degree in electronic, electrical, energy, mechatronic, information engineering, and some relevant work experience in system modelling and data processing.
Experience: Research or working experience in one or more of the following fields: power systems, data science, control systems for power systems or power electronics, operation research, and machine learning Strong mathematical and theoretical background on system modelling Excellent programming and analytical skills (e.g.
in Python, Matlab/Simulink, R, Julia, C++…) Optionally, some knowledge of tools for electrical systems modeling (e.g.
Pandapower/Matpower or OpenDSS) will be positively considered.
Skills: Strong teamwork abilities and excellent communication skills.
Motivation to learn and adapt, with a flexible approach to work.
Excellent English, both written and spoken.
Proactive and goal-oriented attitude.
We offer: A full-time, one-year position with the potential for extension.
The chance to collaborate with a motivated, international team in a rapidly growing sector, working alongside local and global research and industry partners.
An environment that fosters professional development, knowledge acquisition, and career growth opportunities in applied sciences research.
Competitive living and working conditions in a certified Great Place to Work environment.
Eurac Research is listed as certified Great Place to Work on Italian national level based on the collaborators surveys https://www.bestworkplaces.it/aziende/eurac-research/ How to apply:Interested candidates should submit their application (CV, cover letter and further relevant documents) by 14.10.2024.
