Researcher (Computer Science And Engineering)

The Ubiquitous Internet Research Unit of IIT-CNR (Pisa, Italy) is scouting for talented researchers (PhD holders).
We are collecting expressions of interest for the following research topic: Efficient Network Resource Management in XR-assisted Industry 5.0 Background According to the European Commission, in the paradigm of Industry 5.0, people work alongside robots and smart machines by placing the worker's wellbeing at the center of the production process.
In such human-centric industrial environments, the efficient distribution of network resources and data is a crucial aspect of maintaining the functionality and productivity of the system.
The increasing number of potentially mobile connected devices and the demand for real-time data exchanges introduce challenges in ensuring that: (i) Data is delivered effectively and efficiently to maximize the quality of experience (QoE), (ii) the collaborative production output is effective and efficient, especially in the presence of immersive technological enablers, such as wearable extended reality (XR) devices.
Topic description This position focuses on modeling and simulating industrial networking principles to optimize data and resource management and enhance productivity in diverse industrial settings.
The role entails exploring the utility of cutting-edge networking technologies such as Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC) and Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) within Industry 5.0 networks.
Algorithmic strategies and dataset utilization to optimize computing and communication resources will be investigated, in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in industrial production processes.
For example, by optimizing the impact of immersive and networked technological concepts on human perception, worker QoE and productivity Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for industrial stakeholders can be enhanced.
Type of prospect positions We plan to open positions at the level of Researcher (CNR fixed-term employee, level III) on this topic.
Funding and partnerships The activities of this topic will be supported by RESTART: Extended Partnership on Telecommunications of the Future (funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan - NextGenerationEU) Candidate profile Ideal candidates should have obtained a PhD degree (or have a 3-year professional experience in scientific research) in Computer Science, Wireless Networking, Computer Engineering, or closely related disciplines, and a proven track record of excellent scientific publications.
Preferably, the PhD can be in Industrial Networking, Internet of Things, Optimization, Distributed Computing, or Artificial Intelligence.
