The selected candidates will play a crucial role in refining and completing subject-specific content for an immersive online educational program to teach integrated geography, mathematics, and geology through the lens of geologic and dinosaur paleontological work.The research project focuses on the interdisciplinary realm of geosciences, utilizing its unique characteristics to foster integrated learning.
Through the creation of an immersive Virtual Field Trip (VFT), we aim to increase exposure to geosciences in high school and early college and enhance STEM education by seamlessly integrating subjects such as geography, math, biology, and physics within geoscience applications.
The VFT, featuring a virtual paleontology expedition, will be hosted on the American Geosciences Institute's digital platform, ensuring wide accessibility.
Assessment tools, including validated instruments, will gauge the VFT's impact on student engagement, academic gains, and attitudinal factors.
The broader impacts encompass supporting early-career scientists, engaging undergraduate students in hands-on experiences, and disseminating outcomes widely to schools, museums, and beyond.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCollaboration with Principal Investigators (PIs) on the development of specific set of modules for the online program.Refinement and complete subject-specific educational content for the VFT modules.Leveraging curricular expertise to optimize the adaptability of the VFT to existing high school curricula.Aligning learning objectives and educational content to closely meet state and national educational standards.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree required and other state-mandated teaching certifications.Minimum of one year experience high school teaching in geography, geology, or mathematics.Strong curriculum development skills and familiarity with educational policies and standards.Ability to collaborate effectively with PIs and contribute to the ongoing development of educational modules.Commitment to working during the summer months.Preferred QualificationsA knowledge of multimedia resources and the ability to incorporate them into online lessons preferred.Special Message to ApplicantsA unique and exciting opportunity for high school-level educators looking for summer work!
