Description of the Research Activity: Apple proliferation is a disease caused by phytoplasmas.
The pathogen is mainly transmitted by psyllids of the genus Cacopsylla.
The transmission efficiency varies between different Cacopsylla species as well as geographical regions.
Factors that influence the transmission efficiency of phytoplasmas are currently not known.
The aim of this project is to investigate factors that cause the different transmission efficiency of phytoplasmas.
In detail, interactions between the phytoplasma, the vector, and its microbiome will be studied using various population genetic methods.
