The Product ShippyPro is the platform that simplifies shipping and fulfillment processes for merchants, helping them automate and speed up their operations. We are currently undertaking a major initiative to modernize our tech stack to a fully distributed system to support our business growth for the coming years.
The Codebase You'll Be Working On Our platform is built on a solid foundation of modern web technologies, and we are in the middle of a significant modernization effort. Our current tech stack includes:
Frontend: We utilize React and TypeScript for building dynamic and responsive user interfaces, complemented by Tailwind CSS for creating modern, visually appealing UI components. Backend: Our backend is primarily built with Node JS and PHP. As we transition to a more distributed architecture, experience with microservices and AWS Lambda is highly valued. Testing: We ensure robustness and reliability with strong unit and end-to-end tests using Jest, Cypress, and PHP Unit. Design Systems: Storybook is used for developing, testing, and documenting UI components in isolation. Databases: MySQL and DynamoDB are our go-to databases, requiring strong knowledge in database optimization and query performance. Caching: Redis is employed for caching to enhance application speed. Messaging Buses: We utilize AWS EventBridge and RabbitMQ for messaging and event-driven architecture. Infrastructure: All our systems run on AWS, leveraging its power and scalability. We use Docker for containerization and AWS ECS for container orchestration and CI/CD pipelines. APIs: We offer robust public APIs, requiring a strong understanding of RESTful API design and GraphQL. We handle millions of requests across the globe, ensuring our systems are robust, scalable, and always available to meet the demands of our customers. We are looking for someone who is not afraid to get their hands dirty, tackle complex challenges, and come up with creative, innovative solutions.
The Development Team This role reports directly to the COO and will act as a strategic technical voice in defining the evolution of the product architecture over the 3+ year time frame to align with the business strategy along with mentoring and coaching engineers in design, implementation, and supporting best practices that ensure we build a world-class solution to support our customers in their logistics needs!
You will be assessing the existing architecture in concert with the business strategy to identify and lead appropriate architectural evolution to serve the business over the long term. You will bring your deep engineering experience to coach and mentor engineers as you lead the technical design process.
Under your guidance engineers will become better designers and builders planning for scale, resilience, and response in addition to functionality. As a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, you will be the strategic voice for architecture.
About You You have 7+ years of documented experience in Engineering as a Software Architect or similar roles. Deep knowledge and proficiency in relevant technologies, frameworks, and development methodologies. Deep understanding of architectural patterns and design principles. Proven track record of success in major re-platforms, taking an existing product from a monolithic architecture to a distributed system for an Enterprise audience. Proven track record of success working in a Startup environment. You are not afraid to get your hands dirty, diving deep into complex issues and finding solutions. Capacity to think strategically, and pragmatically, aligning technical efforts with the organization's strategic goals. You have strong English communication skills, both written and verbal. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's preferred).
