ResponsibilitiesJob Purpose: Research and develop products, raw materials, and classification gradesManage the design, prototyping, and testing during product developmentAccurately assess products to ensure they meet desired functionality and standardsContribute to improving customer satisfaction through delivering superior productsDrive business growth through reducing production costs and improving yieldsEnsure colleagues receive technical support throughout the production processWhat You'll Do: Conduct research on the structures, properties, and applications of materialsDetermine the design properties and materials necessary to produce productsDevelop new raw materials for future products, ensuring they are fit for purposeResearch methods of processing, forming, and firing materials to develop productsSupport the design and production of cost-effective, high-quality, and high-yield productsGenerate and maintain technical documentation for new and existing productsProvide thorough specification definition and engage in product testing and refinement ahead of productionMaintain up-to-date knowledge of customer needs and trends within the fieldDetermine the suitability of current products for end-user needsCommunicate with customers regularly to resolve common technical issuesDevelop and maintain detailed access databases for use within the lab and document material development progressProvide technical support for technicians, engineers, and scientists within R&D and other departmentsAnalyse product failure data and laboratory test results to determine the causes of problems and find relevant solutionsManage projects effectively, ensuring that high-quality products are delivered on time and that customers are satisfiedDevelop an understanding of customer needs, and develop new and existing products in line with these requirementsEstablish and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with customers and colleaguesAct as a technical expert on products and processes and communicate complex information to othersPrepare documentation and reports on the status or progress of products for use by technical teamsUpgrade and maintain equipment within the labQualificationsWhat You'll Bring: University education or equivalent, including science-related subjects, and mathsExperience in the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of mechanical goodsIn-depth knowledge of research and development methods and processesMaterials matter knowledge e.g.
ceramic matrix composites, metal matrix composites, ceramics, polymers, etc.Knowledge of process development methodology and project managementBasic understanding of the main principles of lean manufacturingFluency in EnglishTechnology & Systems: Analytical or scientific software, Microsoft Teams, Minitab Software, Project Software
