The role – what is it we would like you to do? Currie & Brown is currently looking for a Quantity Surveyor for our Milan office. The successful candidate will support our directors in generating a high standard of service delivery, achieving successful outcomes for our clients, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects, enhancing our culture of innovation and reinforcing our reputation as a preferred service provider.
The cost consultant manages all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects. Its primary role is to estimate and monitor costs from the initial planning stage through to completion of a project. As quantity surveyor it analyses costs of labour, materials, and time to prepare cost estimates and ensure projects are completed within budget.
As a Quantity Surveyor, your core duties will involve:
Estimating costs for construction projects including materials, equipment and labour. Preparing bills of quantities for contractors to price during the tender process. Negotiating and managing contracts between clients and contractors. Advising on contractual and procurement issues, helping determine the best contracts and procurement procedures for projects to protect your client's interests while also being fair to contractors. Monitoring costs during construction to ensure the project remains within budget. Approval of contractors' pay applications. Advising on tax depreciation schedules and life cycle costing of buildings. Resolving disputes between contractors and clients regarding costs. Providing accurate cost advice and reporting to our clients. Maintaining effective communication to ensure all information is available for the successful completion of projects. Liaising with other managers to ensure efficient financial control. Delivering all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner. Providing support to the project lead or senior cost manager in cost management of projects. Representing the Company in a professional and diligent manner; meeting, negotiating and corresponding with clients to form strong working relationships. What skills and attributes are we looking for from you? Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction economics, or a related field. Both Italian and English advanced level is required. A minimum of three years' technical delivery experience (Data Centre experience is a plus). Pre- and post-contract experience. Strong analytical and numerical skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Proficiency with spreadsheets, cost databases, and specialist quantity surveying software. Knowledge of building and construction methods, legal issues, and H&S standards. Good client-facing and communication skills. Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute. A team player with a 'can-do' attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible.
