Purpose of the Project The forestation project envisages 40,000 hectares of a new forest by planting acacia mangium, which has excellent growth capacity and performance in carbon sequestration, along with a plant nursery. This is a 30-year renewable concession, with an investment time of approximately 15 years for the 40,000 hectares. The project will follow VCU (Verified Carbon Units) standards.
Duties: Manage relations with Aither (an environmental consulting company for drafting documents and certification of the project and carbon credits)
Draft and submit the Project Idea Note.
Draft and submit the Project Design Document.
Accredit the project with third-party authorities.
Issue credits.
Manage relations with ODW (Congolese environmental consulting company assisting in drafting the environmental and social impact study).
Manage day-to-day relations with ProNar (government body that monitors forestation projects) and the public authority in the country, supported by ODW.
Manage day-to-day relations with Verra (verification body that certifies forestation projects and issues credits), supported by Aither.
Plan the field activities that the Client will develop.
Be responsible for the planting process.
Monitor and safeguard the process.
Supervise the activities of the operational structure that the Client will put in place, led by a chief plant nurseryman (operational).
Follow the materials procurement process (seeds, soil, pots, tables, irrigation, etc.) based on the specifications of PIN/PDD/....
Monitor investment budgets and progress of activities.
Set up a plant nursery.
Cultivate seedlings before planting in the plot.
The implementation strategy envisages a plant nursery, centrally located in the village in Ngabe district.
Requirements Degree in agroforestry sciences or environmental engineering.
Experience in carbon sequestration or alternatively experience in socio-environmental impact studies and project certification with international bodies.
Experience in sub-Saharan Africa and in particular interfacing with public authorities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Experience in afforestation/reforestation/red++ projects.
Languages: Fluent in French (written and spoken) and English.
