The Product Chief Engineer has specific skills / knowledge in a specific technology field with high importance for AVL and customers.
For every specific technology field there is only one technical expert per location.
The Product Chief, as technical expert, supports sales organization in Business Development
during offer phase, the Product Chief, supported by Project Manager and Key account Manager, provides cost calculation, technical assumptions and/or boundary conditions.
The Product Chief Engineer is the technical reference for customers, within projects, for topics related to his/her expertise.
The Product Chief is responsible for the technical delivery of projects.
The PC could lead a team of direct reports (Chief Engineers), he/she serves as the technical authority and decision-maker on projects within his field of responsibility
MAIN DUTIES, OPERATIONAL TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collect all technical customer's needs.
• Supports business development by providing expertise in customer meetings; communicates AVL's technical competency.
• Supports the commercial area and lead the technical area on the acquisition process of project proposals, including follow-up projects and/or project extension.
• Before offer preparation defines the complete development approach (top-down definition with a focus on efficiency & effectiveness) incl. first estimation of total development costs (considering the desired customer target price and development approach in close collaboration with the sales organization).
• Has the technical lead in the offer preparation process from acquisition to project order.
• Supports acquisition including planning of the efforts for all project queries according to his/her field of responsibility.
• Leads, with the early involved Project Manager and Project Operation Manager, during the offer preparation.
• Proposes the workshare between AVL ITA & Affiliates – approved by POM, Engineering Mgr., Eng. Director.
• Has the right to overrule Team Leader regarding development approach, task distribution between Skill Teams, and overall costs – escalation to Engineering Manager / Engineering Director
• Releases the final offer via TOR (Technical Offer Release).
• Is responsible for defining the technical content of an offer in alignment with the customer.
• Serves as the technical authority on assigned projects within his field of responsibility.
• Ensures the successful execution and completion of projects assigned by satisfying the technical targets, budget and timing according to the customer specification and AVL´s contractual obligations for the defined area of responsibility.
• Ensures best technical solutions within his/her technology field, aligned to the best practices applied.
• Making technical decisions and prioritizing the tasks in terms of the project
• Communicating and representing AVL´s technical competence in the assigned projects.
• Ensuring technical integration and networking with the customer organization
• Is responsible for adjustment of the defined development approach during project execution if needed, in alignment with PJM / POM.
• Must review Engineering Variation Requests (EVR).
• Reporting the technical project status to the project manager and the customer and gathers technical decisions and acceptance from customer.
• Owns the Lessons Learned implementation of the respective product responsibility regarding the development approach.
PROFILE:
• Mechanical/Electronic or automotive engineering graduate of a university of technology or university of applied sciences.
• >10 years engineering experience in the field of automotive development.
• >5 years engineering experience in the EE and Infotainment (Architecture, System Engineering, ECU development, HMI/UX/UI, wiring harness design cycle, testing activities and ordinarily tools used in this field) domain is mandatory.
• Several years of experience in project management.
• Previous experiences in the commercial area are welcome.
• High degree of goal-orientation and self-management
