**YOUR ROLE**
Lithography plays an essential role in the production process of microcircuits. Lithography masks are used by scanners to transfer the desired pattern onto photosensitive materials deposited on silicon. If the pattern has defects that exceed the resolution threshold, these will be transferred onto the wafer just like the desired patterns, with a measurable effect on the electrical yield of the devices. The certification of the lithographic masks' patterns through laser scanning allows for the identification of defects that must be classified according to their danger. The thesis work, aimed at developing an automatic classification system for defects highlighted by scans, finds a wide margin of study in the processes of HAZE formation on attenuation and phase shift masks for lithographic processes with wavelengths of 193 and 248nm, which in the literature are still only partially investigated and understood.
