**ABOUT US**
At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarters are strictly interconnected with the other 11 centers around Italy and two outstations based in the US. We promote excellence in basic and applied research such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, nanotechnology, materials for a truly multidisciplinary scientific experience.
**YOUR TEAM**
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where computational scientists in the fields ranging from physics, to chemistry, to engineering collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.
The position is in the _Computational mOdelling of NanosCalE and bioPhysical sysTems_ - (CONCEPT) Research Line coordinated by Dr. Walter Rocchia, who has extensive experience on Biophysical modeling. Strong internal collaboration is active in this project with the _Atomistic Simulation_ line of Prof. Michele Parrinello, and with the _Computational Statistics and Machine Learning_ line of Dr. Massimiliano Pontil.
The research focuses on finding predictive, machine-learning-enabled methods able to accelerate the solution of specific partial differential equations used to calculate relevant biophysical quantities. This includes specifically different flavors of equations for calculation of electrostatic interaction methods in the continuum dielectric framework.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Identify a set of potentially useful machine learning approaches to reach the given goal
- Perform a feasibility study to estimate which could be the most effective one;
- Collaborate with the already ongoing effort to implement this approach.
