Post-Doc position in Single Molecule Localisation Microscopy and Spectroscopy
- (2400008H)
Commitment & contract: 1 Year + 1 Year Contract
Location: IIT Erzelli, Genova
WHO WE ARE
At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
THE PROJECT
The Single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) is a powerful imaging technique that significantly enhances spatial resolution beyond the diffraction limit of traditional microscopy. This breakthrough enables the visualization of biological structures at the molecular scale. Importantly, structural information obtained through SMLM can potentially be correlated with functional molecular-scale data by combining imaging with spectroscopy, such as fluorescence lifetime or emission spectrum analysis.
Recently, the development of novel single-photon detector arrays, specifically single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays, has opened new avenues for integrating single-molecule localization microscopy with advanced spectroscopic capabilities.
In this context, we invite applications from motivated and talented postdoctoral researchers to join the Molecular Microscopy and Spectroscopy Research Unit at IIT, led by Dr. Giuseppe Vicidomini.
The project focuses on developing innovative single-molecule localization techniques for combined structural and functional imaging, leveraging state-of-the-art SPAD array detectors.
The successful candidate will play a key role in designing optical microscopy systems and developing methods for data analysis. Additionally, the Postdoc will collaborate with the RNA Technology Flagship to apply these advanced assays to RNA biology, shedding light on RNA's role in biomolecular condensates and their functions.
