Post-doc position in bioinformatics and biostatistics Bioinformatics, biostatistics, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq sequencing data analysis and interpretation, GWAS and WES analyses.
Description The Institute for Biomedicine is participating in the Interreg Italia-Österreich SENEscence and CAncer (SENECA) project, dedicated to exploring the effect of ageing, particularly the impact of cellular senescence on the immune system. Senescence leads to a decrease in immune system function and, by weakening cancer defenses, to an increased risk of cancer in high age. The aim of the SENECA project is to decipher the cellular processes of ageing and search for new therapeutic agents against cancer. The research network comprises partners in Udine, Salzburg, and Trieste with expertise in cellular models, immunology, and chemical synthesis. Additionally, the Institute is involved in genomic analyses of complex traits in the field of cardiovascular and metabolic health.
We are currently seeking a post-doc researcher in bioinformatics and biostatistics with experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis and interpretation, to work on the SENECA project and on genome-wide investigations on complex health traits.
The Institute for Biomedicine is home to an international and interdisciplinary team of scientists, students, and support staff, integrated into a network of international and national partners, located at the NOI Techpark ( in a recently renovated, spacious, and modern building. Eurac Research ranks among the best workplaces in Italy and offers many opportunities to combine work and social activities. Living and working in Bozen/Bolzano allows you to experience a unique combination of Alpine and Mediterranean culture right at the heart of one of the most exciting mountain regions in Europe. Major cities like Milan, Rome, Munich, or Vienna can be reached within a few hours by train.
Tasks: Design, evaluation, and interpretation of next-generation sequencing for transcriptomic and epigenetic experiments (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq). Integration of computational datasets from various heterogeneous sources. Sequencing experiment downstream analyses such as pathway, network, and gene enrichment analysis. Conducting GWAS or WES association analyses on cardiometabolic and immunological traits. Dissemination of results in peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. Requirements: PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or molecular biology with a demonstrated research record by authoring peer-reviewed journal articles. Proficiency in application, adaptation, and result interpretation of next-generation sequencing pipelines. Proficiency in statistical data analysis. Firm grasp of R/Bioconductor statistical programming language. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. We offer: The successful candidate is offered a one-year contract in a vibrant, international, multidisciplinary research environment, including semi-annual meetings with project partners in Austria and Italy, the possibility to visit a partner institute for complementary training, as well as access to dedicated scientific training offered by educational centers within the European Union.
