Job Description: A 3-years PhD position is available in the framework of the European project "RAVEN - Ultra high resolution atmospheric sensors", funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe.
The research project will be carried out at Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), Italy, with secondment periods planned at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, and INP Grenoble, France.
The candidate will be enrolled in the PhD doctoral course in Physics at PoliTo.
The doctoral candidate will conduct original research in the design, fabrication, and use of dielectric nanophotonic structures aimed at spectroscopic analysis of atmospheric gas.
She/he will develop new strategies for integrating photonic crystal structures within a glass-based waveguide platform to implement a compact sensing chip including embedded light sources and detectors.
Minimum Requirements: The applicant should have completed a Master's program in Physics or Physics Engineering with a good background in classical electromagnetism and optics. For eligibility, the MS title must warrant participation in PhD programs in the home country.
Specific Requirements: Good knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C, and Matlab.Knowledge in micro/nano-fabrication technologies is an asset.Very good knowledge of English (both written and oral).Highly motivated, autonomous, and willing to collaborate with both academic and industrial partners.
