Parent Sector: Priority Africa and External Relations Sector (PAX)Duty Station: VeniceClassification of duty station: ((filter12))Standard Duration of Assignment: ((filter13))Job Family: Programme CoordinationType of contract: Non StaffDuration of contract: From 7 to 11 monthsRecruitment open to: External candidatesApplication Deadline (Midnight Paris Time): 30/10/2024UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, ProfessionalismOVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSTUnder the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe and the direct supervision of the Coordination Officer, the consultant will provide support and contribute to ensure the full participation of the Regional Bureau in the UN Development System and UNESCO's positioning in regional programmes and initiatives.The position is located in the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, in Venice, Italy.The Consultant will:Assist the Supervisor and keep an overview of UNESCO's participation in various UN inter-agency thematic and programmatic working groups in the countries under the Bureau's geographical purview;Contribute to the Regional Bureau's inputs to strategic and programming documents, statutory reports and reports in the framework of its contribution to the UN Development System (UNDS) in Europe and Central Asia;Assist the Supervisor in her role as member of the Peer Support Group (PSG) for Europe and Central Asia by undertaking analytical work and review of responses received by the UNCTs;Assist the Supervisor in drafting the biennial report about UNESCO's contribution to the UNDS in Europe and Central Asia;Prepare a draft detailed analysis about UNESCO's contribution to the UNSDCF cycles in South East Europe;Fulfil responsibilities in other aspects, such as participating in regular UNCT meetings, retreats, Result Groups, etc.
;Support communication related to UNESCO's participation in UNSDG/RCP regional coordination;Assist the Supervisor in other activities linked to the UNDS;Carry out other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.Contract duration: 9 monthsUNESCO shall pay the Contractor an amount not exceeding EUR 2,300 per month.
Payments will be made only after UNESCO (Supervisor) has confirmed that the work executed falls within the terms agreed.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in international relations, economics, management of cultural activities or natural and cultural heritage protection, or other related subjects.Experience:Professional experience in coordination, planning, monitoring acquired at international level.Prior work experience with the United Nations or its Specialized Agencies, Funds or Programme.Knowledge, skills, and competencies:Strong competence on Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases.Good communication, research and analytical skills.Good organisational and planning skills.Experience in an international multi-cultural working environment.Ability to be a team-player with strong interpersonal skills.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSWork Experience:Experience in working for or with other national and/or international development cooperation agencies.Skills/Competencies:Knowledge of UNESCO's mandate, programme and operational processes.Experience on implementation of EU funded projects.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent coordination skills.Discretion, initiative and service-oriented.Good analytical and problem solving skills.Ability to establish good working relationships.Languages:Knowledge of French and/or Italian.SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESSPlease note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
