Local Unit & Position Description:
Area Iberia, Italy & Malta is part of DNV Maritime, Region West Europe.
The Area includes all classification business activities and consists of ~60 employees in 11 locations.
The Area operates with two Service Lines:
- Newbuilding and Certification-Verification of materials and components (NB&CMC)
- Fleet in Service (FiS), organised as part of business Unit FiS West Europe.
We are looking for a Surveyor to join our NB&CMC team in Italy, reporting to the local Line Manager (Area NB/CMC Manager Italy/Malta).
Our customers require a wide range of certification skills and knowledge: from materials and welding procedures to pressure vessels, pumps, electrical installations and automation systems, and up to highly sophisticated machinery systems (gears, thrusters, compressors, offshore packages), as well as building of big and complex ships, from design phase to final delivery.
From this traditional background, we started a journey covering also advanced future technology: Fuel cells, new types of turbines, advanced electrical drives, and lithium batteries for ship propulsion, to name a few.
We aim to be the front runner in innovation, digitalization, and customer centricity.
Based on this ambition, new ways of working are continuously assessed and implemented for various disciplines.
Recent examples are electronic certificates, remote inspections, 3D printing, sensor-based maintenance, alternative fuels and now heading towards autonomous shipping.
Customer needs and CO2 footprint reduction are key priorities in our activities.
**Main responsibilities**:
- Managing our clients together with other relevant parts of our organization
- Be part of DNV team(s) surveying our newbuilding project(s) in the country, including activities through all project phases, from planning to close-out.
- Work in close cooperation with and under the supervision of DNV Project Manager at the Yard(s).
- Effectively interact with the builder's and owner's representatives at the yard.
- Perform certification and verification of materials and components at the various manufacturers in Italy, under class and non-class related regimes and associated processes.
Position Qualifications:
- Master/Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Marine Engineering (or other relevant disciplines).
- 1-3 years of experience in the industry, working experience as NB and/or CMC/VMC Surveyor will be a plus.
- Valid driving license.

- Very good communication skills, verbal and in writing, both in English and Italian.
- If not fluent in Italian, eagerness to quickly learn local language is a must.
- Team player attitude with positive mindset.
- Ability to work flexibly, independently, result-oriented, and self-organized.
- Result-oriented: responsible for professional and consistent deliveries throughout the assigned projects.
- Willingness to learn and always develop competence and skills.
- Eagerness to support new processes and tools to drive digitalisation.
- Flexibility to travel up to 50% of the time, in Italy and occasionally within the Area/Region.
- Availability to relocate depending on business needs.
