Position: Network System Engineer
The candidate shall be able to manage the whole lifecycle of a bid or a project from a technical point of view, for a Network System in Transportation Domain project.
The Network System Engineer role requires sound technical knowledge and experience in Network equipment and architectures, from Design to Configuration and maintenance of such infrastructures. He will operate during both Bid and Project phases. As part of the Bid / Tender stage, the system engineer will analyze contractual and system requirements, derive subsystem requirements, and build the system architecture based on the outcome of such analysis. As part of the Project stage, in close coordination with the Solution Engineering Manager, the Project Manager, and the other team members, he will be responsible for all activities relevant to the assigned subsystem, ensuring predefined results on time, within budget, and with the expected level of Quality.
Main Activities: In the context of Engineering accountability, responsible for all technical activities: identifying and analyzing requirements, defining architecture, allocating requirements to system components, developing solutions, integrating, verifying, validating, and qualifying the system. Responsible for conformity with requirements, quality, performance, customer satisfaction, budget, and schedule relevant to his Engineering work package. Proposes technical solutions and general application, network architecture, equipment positioning, and coverage to support the virtualized environment. Ensures requirements management and their allocation to subsystems/components. Plans and oversees configuration management activities and solution integrity with the Configuration Manager. Supports deployment/installation and site acceptance activities. Ensures coordination and communication among various players in technical activities and a smooth transition of responsibility to the Installation and Commissioning organization. Main technical interface for the Customer Counterpart for his subsystems. Coordinates with technical Customer Counterpart according to Contractual requirements. Participates in Project Meetings when scheduled and/or requested. Compiles reports concerning his role and responsibilities according to internal reporting procedure. Drafts official letters and correspondence to be sent to the Customer. Coordinates and controls different Vendors / Manufacturers, Suppliers, and Subcontractors. Correctly applies Quality procedures and HSE procedures and instructions. Manages external interfaces with the Interface Manager. Allocates and coordinates human and physical resources in his team (if any). Reviews the technical Scope of Work and keeps updated the scope baseline, informing the PM, Contract Manager, and Solution Engineering Manager. Proposes variation requests to SEM for submission to the Customer. Assists the PM/SEM, the Contract Manager, and the Sales department in the technical negotiation of change proposals. Supports the Contract Manager in preparing Claim Files. Supports the technical bid, contributing to the offer preparation for Radio System, Wireless Transmission System (WTS), and related applications. Contributes to the preparation of the list of deliverables. Refines acceptance procedure principles and Integration, Verification, Validation, Qualification, Acceptance Plan with the help of Integration Manager and SEM approval. Coordinates with Purchasing Department for the technical content of RFQ, offers evaluation, and Suppliers selection. Supports the Purchasing Department in defining subcontracts and standard clauses to be inserted in Sub Contract Agreement and Purchase Orders. Skills and Experience: Min. 5 years of experience in the role. Dimensioning, Design, and Integration of complex multiservice (data/video/voice) wired telecommunication networks (Gigabit Ethernet, MPLS, etc.) and IP backbones. Mastery of main Network L2 and L3 protocols (LACP, RSTP, OSPF, VLAN, etc.), redundancy protocol, protection protocols, and their implementation. Knowledge of devices from main players in the market. Knowledge of Network security policy and protocols. Experience in IP Networks configuration and deployment. Familiarity with current technical trends in Network Solution architectures. Networking Certification (e.g., CCNA, etc.). Proficiency in office tools to produce project documentation in various formats (documents, drawings, etc.). Practical knowledge of development lifecycle and its use by systems engineers. Good knowledge of Operating Systems, both Windows and Linux based. Basic knowledge of Cybersecurity and Information security.
The candidate must have developed the capability of managing relationships with other departments, Customers, and Suppliers through professional experiences. Fluent English and Italian is mandatory. Available to travel.
