Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess a New York State Commercial Driver's License with 'P' and 'S' endorsements AND either possess 19-A certification or obtain 19-A certification within 90 days of appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working with deaf students and/or the ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language.
Duties DescriptionThe New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Motor Vehicle Operator (substitute) position in the New York State School for the Deaf (NYSSD). Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Transport students in a school bus;Map routes, itineraries, and points of call;Post manifests of people transported;Maintain vehicle records as per NYSED and NYSSD directives;Inspect vehicles as required and note defects.Additional CommentsCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of a New York State Commercial Driver's License with 'P' and 'S' endorsements and 19-A certification or pending 19-A certification will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Candidates are required to possess a New York State Commercial Driver's License with 'P' and 'S' endorsements and either 19-A certification at the time of hire or obtain 19-A certification within 90 days of appointment. Continued employment as a Motor Vehicle Operator is dependent upon maintaining a New York State Commercial Driver's License with 'P' and 'S' endorsements and 19-A certification. Failure to maintain a New York State Commercial Driver's License with 'P' and 'S' endorsements and 19-A certification will result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant's expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant's fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Thursday, 3:30pm-10:00pm.
