Do you have knowledge of electrochemical cells or stacks components? Would you like to design solutions for green hydrogen production, compression, and utilization within the energy & industrial market? Join our Climate Technology Solutions Engineering team! At Baker Hughes, our purpose is clear. We take energy forward, making it safer, cleaner, and more efficient for people and the planet. Our Climate Technology Solutions team focuses on bringing innovative clean technology to the energy and industrial space to accelerate our energy transition journey.
Bringing Technology to Life You will participate in the whole process of product definition, from conceptual design to development and testing phase of new equipment for energy transition applications. The main development areas will be focused on the mechanical design and optimization of electrochemical cells and stacks components to power solutions for green hydrogen production, compression, and utilization within the energy & industrial market.
The expectation is for a technical leader that is mastering the core design calculation and validation of cells and stacks structures, development, and integration of components like frames, membranes, sealing devices, tolerancing stack up to ensure sound mechanical design and pressure control of the cells assembly within stack structure, taking care of the multiphysics environments and interactions typical of electrochemical cells.
As a Mechanical & Modeling Staffing Engineer – Climate Technology Solutions, you will be responsible for: Leading design calculation and validation of cells and stacks structures, development and integration of components like frames, membranes, sealing devices, tolerancing stack up to ensure sound mechanical design and pressure control of the cells assembly within stack structure, taking care of the multiphysics environments and interactions typical of electrochemical cells.Overseeing simulations of stack modules using Finite Element Method (FEM) by coupling, where required, other physical phenomena to generate accurate simulation. Analyzing systems design features, including steady state, transient and off-design behaviours, ensuring fulfilment of all requirements, by computational simulations and any applicable validation and verification methods.Being accountable for technical documentation: creating, reviewing, and approving mechanical engineering deliverables such as the overall stress analysis, handling and transportation, material characterization and structural resistance, including relevant data sheets and components specifications for procurements, ensuring manufacturability and serviceability of the overall system.Ensuring full compliance of systems components design to project/program requirements (including safety and regulatory input).Developing capabilities of analyzing experimental data for rigorous modelling validation.Participating in main project milestone meetings during development phases and with Customers.Contributing to the development of engineering standards, design tools, templates, and processes.Communicating project/program progresses and accomplishments to management.Complying with quality and time schedule targets (both for internal and external Customers).Ensuring compliance with BH policies and values, IP preservation, and HSE culture. Fuel Your Passion To be successful in this role you will:
Have a Master's or PhD degree in mechanical, energy, process and/or chemical/electrochemical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college.Have experience with pressure equipment design, structural analysis & verifications, including calculation/simulation tools.Have knowledge of manufacturing methods and processes, with an emphasis on scalability, cost optimization, and series production.Be open to innovative ideas, ability to drive change, and passionate about new technologies.Have experience in cell/stack development (at least one among AEL, PEM, AEM or SOEC/SOFC technologies), or stack components design (bipolar plates, gaskets, etc., sealing) will be positively evaluated.Have very good oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and leadership skills. Be fluent in English, written and verbally.
