YOUR TEAM You'd be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where control experts, software, mechanical and electrical engineers collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.
The Dynamic Legged Systems Research line (web: ) is coordinated by Claudio Semini, who has extensive experience in the design and control of robots applied to Disaster Response, Agriculture and Space Exploration.
The team's research focuses on locomotion over rough terrain, foothold planning, whole-body control, perception, loco-manipulation, machine learning, as well as the development of the next generation quadruped robots.
For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated and proactive mechanical engineer to design and support the development of a new legged platform for the DLS lab centered around the INAIL Robot Teleoperativo 3 project.
This position has a major focus on the assembly, development and testing of mechanical parts which will be integrated onto a commercial legged robot.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be to: Integrate with the team of technicians supporting day to day R&D and maintenance activities (debugging, testing, developing new concepts, improve robot performance).
Design and development of mechanical parts for robots and equipment.
Continuous improvement of robot performance and robustness, aiming at reaching TRL 6.
Measuring and evaluating robot performance by carrying out data analysis.
Robot maintenance, assembly of new mechanical parts.
Perform hardware prototype tests.
REQUIREMENTS A Master's degree in Robotics, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering Good knowledge of CAD software, modelling and drawing, preferably Siemens NX Understanding of dimensional and geometrical tolerances Understanding of manufacturing processes, in particular CNC machining Experience with mechanical systems Experience on mechanical assembling Very good manual skills and affinity with lab environment Good communication skills and ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group Good command in spoken and written English Further desirable but not necessary skills include good knowledge of FE modelling and coding with Matlab or Python.
