Job DescriptionThis role serves as the Materials and Process (M&P) subject matter expert in composites to support the development of advanced technology cabin interiors.
The M&P engineer works within the Research and Development area (R&D) reporting to the R&D Manager and Technical Director.
He is responsible for designing structures that will meet aviation criteria, meet customer mission requirements, and minimize weight while bringing experience to reduce design iterations and enable innovation.
The work environment will utilize a fast-paced team that offers multi-disciplinary experience.
Key Responsibilities & Duties: Support layout and design of composite structures (Epoxy and/or Phenolic Composites in Carbon/Glass/Natural Fibers) for aircraft interiors (seats / monuments).
Support trade studies to determine optimum type of material and manufacturing process for spars, shells, spreaders, and any other part of seats/interiors.
Manage the development process of new products that use both unconventional materials (composites with carbon or glass fibers) and metal alloys of Aluminium, Magnesium, Titanium, etc.
Review drawings to ensure the correct material and process specifications are used.
Develop the production process with autoclave, press, RTM, infusion, etc., interfacing with the production department, the production technical office, and outsourcing companies.
Work with 3D design tools for reviewing and approving drawings.
Define test components/coupons needed to validate design/analysis.
Education / Experience: Master's Degree required in one of the following: Materials Engineering (preferred), Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related technical field.
Previous experience in the role of 5-7 years within companies operating in the sector of processing composite materials (preferably carbon fiber with press molding technology).
Previous experience in companies operating in the automotive and/or motorsports or aeronautical sector is welcome.
Competences: Good knowledge of the English language and 2D/3D CAD modeling and structural sizing tools (laminator, etc.).
Familiarity with 14 CFR / EASA CS Part 23, 25 and military qualification is desirable.
Experienced with Word and Excel software.
The profile is completed by good organizational skills with aptitude for teamwork, precision, tolerance to stress, spirit of initiative, and orientation towards results.
Requirements: Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Knowledge of 3D design software such as ProE, SolidWorks 2008, Catia V5, and AutoCAD preferred ThinkDesign Think3D.
Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
