behind.Organizational SettingThe Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the Animal Production and Health Division (NSA) supports Member Nations to strengthen the contribution of the livestock sector towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).One area of work is the assessment of interactions of livestock systems with the environment.The division has developed the Global Livestock Assessment Model (GLEAM) to quantify environmental impacts globally and uses a lifecycle assessment (LCA) to calculate greenhouse gas emissions.To increase the relevance of the model for designing mitigation policies, NSA has initiated a project to update data and methods and develop a new generation of the model (GLEAM-X) as one single web application that can simulate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the impacts of mitigation under different scenarios and at different scales, from farm to country and regional scale.The post is located in the Livestock Innovation, Climate and Post Harvesting Solutions Branch (NSAL) of the Animal Production and Health Division (NSA) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.Reporting LinesThe Livestock Policy Officer (Livestock and Climate Change Specialist) reports to the Livestock Policy Officer (Systems Analysis), under the overall supervision of the Chief, NSAL.Technical FocusThe incumbent will support the team in expanding and updating the approaches that are used to quantify emission baselines and the impact of mitigation interventions for livestock systems and recommend and implement new state-of-the art approaches for additional species and emission sources, a systematic collection and harmonization of relevant data sets globally and adequate documentation following international standard and coordinate the contributions of different external and internal collaborators.Key ResultsResearch, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products, and services.Key Functions• Researches and analyses technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services.• Produces a variety of technical information, data, statistics and reports, as well as input for technical documents and web pages.• Provides technical support/analysis to various assessments, studies and initiatives and provides technical backstopping to field projects.• Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases.• Participates in multidisciplinary teams and/or leads working groups/teams collaborates with other Divisions/Offices/Centres on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.• Collaborates in, provides technical backstopping to and ensures the quality/effectiveness of capacity development activities within Member Nations such as policy support, organizational development and individual learning events including preparation of related information, learning materials, on-line tools.• Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.• Supports resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Corporate Strategy.Specific Functions• Supports the technical implementation of the project, in collaboration with colleagues in NSA and external collaborators.• Supports the timely delivery of planned project activities according to the implementation plan.• Supports the recruitment of team members.• Organizes and supports the facilitation of advisory group meetings, ensuring that their recommendations are considered in the design and implementation of the web application.• Plans and organizes training workshops aimed at capacity-building related to greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in livestock systems within the project.• Prepares and submits necessary reports related to the project's progress and outcomes.• Participates in internal and external meetings, while coordinating outreach and communication activities with other Divisions/Offices/Centres and partner agencies.• Supports the development of online training materials, guidance documents, webinars and online support resources for project stakeholders.• Supports the preparation of scientific publications and reports that validate the methods and data used in the application within the scientific community.• Performs other related tasks.______________________________________________________________________________________________________CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGMinimum Requirements• Advanced university degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, environmental engineering, environmental science, biology, sustainable agriculture (including livestock, forestry, and fisheries), or related field.• Five years of relevant experience in assessing environmental impacts through production chains, in particular from greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and preferably for livestock agrifood systems.• Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).Competencies• Results to draft concise technical reports and/or scientific publications.• Relevance and extent of experience in effectively managing multiple project components.• Demonstrated experience in developing web
