About the role The position entails serving as the Legal Lead for Italy, while also providing strategic legal guidance and advice for the Rare & Epilepsy patient impact value driver across Europe.
The Legal Counsel Italy is responsible for providing legal support to all elements of the cross-functional teams responsible for the launch and commercialization of products and services in the region, relating to UCB's portfolio. This role plays a crucial part in protecting the company's interests and ensuring it operates within the bounds of the law.
You will work with Based in Milan, the Legal Lead Italy works closely within the France, Iberia, and Italy legal cluster, as well as with other European lawyers, the US, and Intercontinental Rare & Epilepsy legal teams and Patient Evidence legal team to ensure consistent risk mitigation across the Global Rare & Epilepsy business.
What you will do Proactively counsel and provide strategic advice on the positioning of (new) medicines across the Immunology and Rare & Epilepsy portfolios in Italy and the Rare & Epilepsy portfolios in Europe and associated services including business strategy, development programs, promotional campaigns and materials, and public announcements/press releases. Participate in leadership team meetings of the Italian affiliate. Guide new business models, social media initiatives, and new forms of interactions with patients, healthcare professionals, payors, and customers in the countries within its scope. Prepare for new product launches and support regulatory, pricing, and reimbursement initiatives. Identify legal risks specific to the country's operations and develop strategies to mitigate these risks proactively. Advise on key business initiatives in Market Research, Real World Evidence, and medical education/congresses, in line with the European Market Access and Global Medical approach. Partner with Data Privacy to advise on GDPR issues impacting the business in the region. Work with Business Development and other functions as required to maximize life cycle management opportunities. Advise on and determine appropriate actions regarding compliance issues such as competition law, relationships with healthcare professionals and patients, promotional regulations, anti-bribery, and corruption. Coordinate and manage legal disputes, investigations, and litigation, engaging with external counsel when necessary. Lead the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial agreements in relation to the ongoing needs of relevant teams. Manage and/or coordinate preferred local outside counsel when necessary and monitor legal spend. Cooperate closely with UCB's Ethics & Business Ethics and other functions, ensuring UCB's global legal, compliance, and IP strategies are embedded. Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience, and skills Qualified lawyer having experience in life sciences, ideally with at least 5 years of commercial pharmaceutical experience in Europe. Fluent in English and Italian at an excellent level is mandatory. Experienced in supporting product launches, end-of-life cycle strategies, business operations, patient experience programs, and market access in Europe. Demonstrated expertise in providing legal advice within the medical and regulatory fields, including global medical and regulatory strategy support in the healthcare sector. Knowledge of digital health and privacy regulations is advantageous. Proficient in navigating matrix organizations and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously. Skilled in influencing stakeholders, negotiation, and establishing constructive partnerships with effective communication. Self-aware and adaptable, capable of working flexibly in dynamic environments. Solution-oriented and pragmatic, providing holistic and practical advice tailored to the business needs. A systems thinker, seeking to understand the strategy and objectives of the European Rare & Epilepsy teams and the company overall, and analyzing how legal risks intersect. Engaging in continuous education on our external environment in Europe, both from an enforcement and competitive standpoint.
