Join our Legal Sustainability team Our Team takes responsibility for developing and safeguarding our company's global ESG/sustainability strategy.
We provide day-to-day legal support on various legal topics.
We partner with the business to provide advice and guidance on new sustainability laws/regulations/litigation, and determine the impact to Baker Hughes operations.
Contribute to business growth You will be a lawyer with program management and ESG experience to assume the role of Legal Counsel - Sustainability, Europe.
You will drive legal assessment of new sustainability laws/regulations/litigation in the EU/UK and determine the impact to Baker Hughes operations.
As a Legal Counsel - Sustainability, you will be responsible for: Supporting the Chief Sustainability Officer in implementing controls to comply with new sustainability laws and regulations.
Driving coordinated horizontal legal support for the Chief Sustainability Officer, the Government Affairs function, and business units for commercialization of Baker Hughes decarbonization technologies.
Managing relationships with our internal stakeholders (HSE, supply chain, sustainability, business units) on local content, social impacts, social investment, and environmental performance.
Collaborating with sustainability team to create measurable KPIs to drive legal improvement in the short and long term specific to decarbonization and ESG risks.
Creating quarterly ESG performance reports to be provided to, reviewed by, the corporate Enterprise Risk Management program manager.
Supporting sustainability due diligence program (across supply chain and other third-party engagement) to be aligned with existing regulatory and internal due diligence programs.
Developing and executing legal sustainability risk training and awareness program.
Collaborating with sustainability function to address all aspects of Governance within ESG.
Supporting Government Affairs function in identifying and actioning governmental funding opportunities (grants, incentives, loans, etc.).
Leveraging technology to anticipate risk and building legal intelligence around Sustainability.
Supporting ERM, regulatory, ITC and HSE matters specific to ESG.
Supporting Baker Hughes business unit and regional counsel in identifying and addressing ESG and decarbonization risk and opportunities.
Improving legal related processes, legal productivity, simplicity, and standardization proactively.
Promoting effective teamwork and coverage throughout the company organization.
Fuel your passion To be successful in this role you will: Have a Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Laws.
Have significant legal experience within the energy or other industries including good legal experience in sustainability/ESG.
Have experience with interpreting regulatory requirements and advising on regulatory compliance strategies.
Have experience with interpreting sustainability disclosure laws and regulations and providing legal advice on sustainability laws.
Have experience working with international issues.
Have excellent collaboration and leadership skills.
Have the ability to develop a great external network of sustainability peers in other companies.
Have Advanced Proficiency in Document Planning/ Drafting.
Have experience in program development and management.
Be able to collaborate effectively in a diverse, matrixed organization.
Have skilled proficiency in Strategy.
Have very good oral and written communication and leadership skills.
