ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT We are seeking a Legal Consultant to join our Legal Office (LEG), based in WFP's Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Legal Consultant will be assigned to LEGC, offering a unique opportunity to work on high impact legal issues that support WFP's global mission. The role will primarily involve giving legal advice and working on a variety of finance-related and general transactional commercial cases including cash-based transfers (CBT), agreements with banks for cash management services and agreements with public and private sector partners. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive) Undertake extensive legal research and analysis; handle a range of multi-disciplinary complex legal matters. Review legal documents, identify and analyze important issues, presenting findings and recommendations for internal review. Prepare or assist in the preparation of legal opinions or advice on a wide range of legal issues. Negotiate and prepare agreements and contracts with public and private entities. Identify potential liabilities and assist in the management of risks in WFP's activities. Prepare and assess briefs of evidence to contribute to legal analysis and solutions. Service and/or assist senior legal officers in servicing committees and other bodies with legal advice. Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives in all areas of work. KEY COMPETENCIES (not all-inclusive) Articulate and concise legal thinking and drafting. Comprehensive and thorough legal research. Timely preparation of sound written analysis on a variety of legal matters. Effective application of legal expertise. Adaptability and flexibility in engagement. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Education: Advanced university degree in law, or first university degree in law with additional relevant experience. Work Experience: At least three years of relevant professional experience as a lawyer in a law firm or in an international organization. Skills: Technical knowledge of finance and commercial law. Solution-oriented mindset and strong communication skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required.
