About you and this roleThe Dow Polyurethane Systems business has an open position for a Technical Service and Development Engineer to join the Polyurethanes Energy Efficiency segment. The position is based in Correggio, Italy.
The main responsibilities will be in the technology area of polyurethane rigid foam mainly for the production of insulated metal panels for the construction industry, from new products development to technical assistance to customers in EMEAI region.
The candidate will be a fast learner, be comfortable with tight timelines, working independently and as part of cross-functional international teams.
The troubleshooting and development activities will require depth of technical thinking and application of scientific methodology in problem solving. In addition, it is considered essential to have a hands-on approach to polyurethane processing equipment and to assisting customers in process related troubleshooting.
The candidate will work closely with the TS&D Leader EMEAI, with regional and global TS&D network and with Marketing and Sales function.
ResponsibilitiesUses expertise to develop value-creating solutions and/or products for the customersUnderstands Dow's technologies and the interaction of those technologies in multiple applications and partners with others to translate technology benefits into business opportunitiesConsistently applies the scientific method to solve technical problemsDevelops applications and implements solutions to eliminate defects and improve performance of productsRecognizes patentable ideas, participates on patent teams and generates critical dataTakes the lead in initiating confidentiality agreements with customers and patent disclosures to protect Dow's intellectual capitalServes as peer coach and provides constructive advice on projects within the teamLeads technical sub teams and defines scope of the larger project spaceModifies communication appropriately to both internal and external audiencesCommunicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports/ROC's/presentations and external publications/presentations (when appropriate). Draft and submit patent disclosures as appropriateServes on multi-disciplinary project teams to collaborate, provide technical input, and deliver results aligned with team deliverablesPartners with Product Stewards to identify and address regulatory constraints and requirements for implementation of product strategies through in-depth knowledge of applicationsProvides customers technical knowledge on the use, handling, and management of Dow products. Solve problems with efficient and systematic troubleshootingQualificationsA minimum of MSc in chemistry, polymer science, industrial chemistry, material science, chemical engineering or material engineering; PhD is a plusExperience in polymer chemistry (synthesis/characterization) and/or formulation science is preferredExperience in polyurethane chemistry and processing is a plusExperience in rigid polyurethane foam is highly valuedAbility to work in international teams, communicate and build networks across geographies and culturesWillingness to travel nationally and internationallyStrong desire to develop operation skills (from laboratory scale to large-scale prototyping in dedicated facilities), grow professionally and deal with complex work challengesKnowledge of design of experiment technique and/or statistical analysis of datasets is an assetIT and communication skills are requiredFluent English is essential, other European language is a plusAdditional notesYou are able to travel between 20% and 30%This position does not offer relocation supportBenefits – What Dow offers youWe invest in you.
