RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Offshore Geotechnical Engineer to join its office in Rozzano or Rome or Genoa, Italy within the Energy Engineering Solutions Division.
Mission The successful candidate will be highly organized, detailed-oriented and responsible for his/her technical duties, capable of working autonomously and under supervision, executing projects within the division, interfacing and coordinating with other peers. You will work on challenging offshore and onshore projects, providing consultancy on ground characterization and foundation design. Working together as a global team, you will be expected to achieve extraordinary results in a demanding and challenging business environment that is constantly changing.
Key Accountabilities Develop geotechnical engineering projects from the preliminary phase to the detailed design, as well as the technical control of projects developed by other parties under the supervision of a principal engineer or a managing engineer.Design foundation/retaining structures (bearing capacity, settlement, soil-structure interaction), slope stability, underground structures design and other geotechnical topics.Develop finite element or difference models for static and dynamic analyses.Obtain soil and rock samples to determine compressibility, efficiency, strength and other factors that affect the structure's behaviour.Develop project schedules and deliverable timelines under the supervision of more experienced engineers.Prepare technical deliverables (technical reports, project performance documentation and engineering drawings, etc).Prepare progress technical reports.Be aware and understand the Quality Policy and ensure that all assigned activities are executed in accordance with the RINA QMS. Education Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering
Qualifications Experience: Entry-level position with preferably 0-2 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or related fields. Prior internships or coursework in geotechnical engineering projects are advantageous.Technical Skills:Basic understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and practices, with a willingness to learn and develop proficiency.Familiarity with foundation and retaining structure design concepts, including bearing capacity, settlement analysis, soil-structure interaction, and slope stability analysis.Basic knowledge of finite element or difference modeling software for static and dynamic analyses, with a willingness to assist in model development under supervision.Ability to interpret results from laboratory testing to determine compressibility, strength, and other factors affecting structure behavior.Knowledge of the main geotechnics software packages (Plaxis, Gint, GRLWeap, DeepSoil) or programming languages is considered a plus.Availability to join offshore campaigns on board vessels/platforms for a maximum continuous period of 30-40 days (1-2 times during a year).
