Internship in the field of "Electromagnetic Metasurfaces for Smart ElectroMagnetic Environments (SEME)" The Microsystems Technology (MST) Research Unit of the Center for Sensors and Devices (SD) deals with design and fabrication of microsystems, microdevices and sensors, consistently with the Foundation's objectives. Planned activities The Microsystems Technology Research Unit of the Center for Sensors and Devices is looking for a young recent graduate interested in pursuing an internship experience in the field of passive and reconfigurable electromagnetic (EM) metasurfaces. Smart EM skins represent a key enabling technology to improve 5G/5G-beyond connectivity in a more environmentally friendly perspective. They modify the EM propagation properties to achieve conditions of signal reflection towards unreached areas and better transmission in others, creating an enhanced natural communication infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a proactive and dynamic young person with good organizational and interpersonal skills, with a propensity for teamwork, motivated to undertake a training experience in an international context.

The intern, working alongside the Research Unit staff, will mainly contribute to the development of some of the following activities:
analysis of the state-of-the-art on passive and reconfigurable EM metasurfaces from a technological perspectivedesign and electromagnetic simulation of basic building blocksfabrication, characterization, electrical and EM experimental validationsignal data post-processingintegration of sensing functionalities The opportunity to join the team in other active and developing projects during the internship period and to gain experience in a dynamic and challenging environment such as FBK will also be offered.

Requirements Possession of Master's degree in Information and Communications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalentBasic knowledge on design and electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g. Keysight ADS, ANSYS HFSS, or FEKO)Good knowledge on electromagnetic theory and wireless propagation principlesBasic programming skills for signal and data post-processingFluent knowledge of written and spoken Italian and English (min. level B2) Internship information Internship start date: from May 2024
Internship experience duration: 6 months for extra-curricular internships.
Opportunity reserved for graduates with a Master's degree (for extra-curricular internships, the degree must not have been obtained more than 12 months ago). The internship experience will take place at the Science and Technology Cluster at the Povo location.
