Internship at LIST's Quantum Materials TeamOpen to BSc/MSc students | Internship period: 4-6 monthsThe Quantum Materials group at Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has recently discovered atomic defects in semiconductor silicon carbide (colour centres) as an ideal platform for quantum computing and quantum communication systems.
We have demonstrated that the potential of these colour centres is further improved after integration into nanophotonic waveguides and cavities.
In this internship, you will help our quantum nanofabrication team to make our processes compatible with industrial (nano-)fabrication.
To this end, you will be involved in identifying the ideal hybrid platform, comprising a silicon carbide layer, which is bonded to various insulator materials. Your internship includes the fabrication of insulator layers on silicon carbide using state-of-the-art cleanroom equipment. Then, you will analyse the silicon-carbide-on-insulator interface with TEM, AFM, and especially with confocal fluorescence microscopy to ensure a minimal amount of background fluorescence at the interface.
We are looking for a candidate, holding a BSc degree, and able to demonstrate prior experience in experimental physics or experimental materials science, e.g., covering lab course experiments or other internships. An additional plus would be previous experience in working in cleanroom environments. Additionally, LISTs regulations require that the successful applicant is registered as a student at a university during the internship. The successful candidate must also be able to clearly communicate in English.
