The Innovation Engineer is responsible for the implementation of innovation projects.
This role is responsible for:
Managing Innovation projects for development of innovative materials, components and processes Implementing innovative solutions to launch new products and improve existing products on the market This position will report to the Innovation Manager and mainly collaborate with Technical Designers, Engineering Leaders, Prototypists, Purchasing, Quality, Legal and external suppliers.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Innovation projects management Work together with the Innovation Manager to research, identify and develop innovative new product concepts, functionalities, and processes Assess the functionality, ergonomic usability, safety and environmental impact of innovation concepts Confidently propose new ideas, concepts and directions for innovation research Monitor and report innovation project KPI's and progress to the Innovation Manager and others Define efficient solutions to assess concepts at an early stage for fast decision-making Technical leadership Manage the RFP process with Purchasing and suppliers Analyse the technical and cost proposals from suppliers Conduct Make or Buy studies together with Innovation Manager, Purchasing and Engineering teams Liaise with Quality and Technical designers for the qualification of materials and components Define the best methods and technologies to illustrate and prove concepts / solutions with the Innovation Manager Evaluate and define best materials, technologies, processes and suppliers to fulfil innovation project requirements Assure that solutions are economically competitive, evaluate and select optimum design alternatives Where appropriate undertake visits to suppliers to agree designs or investigate problems Generate and monitor BOMs and general engineering specifications Prepare documentation (technical design drawings, CAD models) and physicalmodels (mock-ups, trials, test jigs) for presentation and prototyping of design concepts Proven experience and proficiency in 3D CAD / solid modelling software Collect and analyse prototype test data Expertise required in major plastic and metal transformation and decoration processes Expertise appreciated in composites material and processes, foam, têxtile and leather transformation processes Communication and leadership Communicate passion and enthusiasm about the creation of innovative new products, processes and materials Possess a creative and collaborative approach to project work whilst still able to work autonomously on multiple projects at any one time Monitor project communication with internal and external development partners Assure effective liaison with other functions and departments to obtain all cooperation and support required for the success of assigned projects YOUR PROFILE:
Minimum of 5 years experience in Technical Design in B to C product environment Fluent English mandatory, fluency in German important but not mandatory Characteristics and skills:
Passionate and enthusiastic about the creation of innovative new products, processes and materials Strong technical understanding of materials and fabrication techniques used within consumer and industrial product manufacturing Strategically minded with an awareness of commercial imperatives Possessing a creative and collaborative approach to project work whilst still able to work autonomously on multiple projects at any one time Ability to understand and analyse a diverse range of technical information to propose informed solutions to problems Ability to think flexibly and laterally, with a willingness to explore new solutions, test new ideas and concepts Results-oriented, detail oriented Possess project management, time management, organisational, written and verbal communication skills
