The position is home-based with the possibility of travel to DPR Korea.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative, the direct supervision of the Deputy FAO Representative, and technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), in close coordination with the FAO DPRK team, the international consultant will perform the tasks described below.
Technical Focus
Provide technical expertise on fruit production, pest management, and capacity development support for the technicians and the farmers under the FAO project TCP/DRK/4002.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Review the world trend of fruit production and pest management practices on fruit production, and prepare a report in the context of DPRK. Review the baseline report on the current status of fruit production and present pest control measures in DPRK. Analyze capacity gaps and needs of the stakeholders and prepare training materials related to sustainable fruit production in DPRK. Prepare training modules on fruit production combined with IPM/FFS. Provide online training to the national and local stakeholders on modern fruit production technology/practices. Prepare a final report and the end of assignment report. Any other activities, as necessary. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
University degree in agriculture, horticulture, or other related fields. Minimum five years of practical experience in fruit production/pomiculture. Working knowledge of English. FAO Core Competencies
Technical/Functional Skills
Knowledge and experience in fruit production. Capacity to provide advice on sustainable fruit production. Capacity to prepare training materials and guidelines on fruit production. Act as a trainer in the FFS with special focus on fruit production. Ability to write reports. Ability to communicate effectively and act as a trainer. Computer literacy with spreadsheets, databases, and electronic programmes. Excellent communication (both written and oral) and presentation and reporting skills.
