This position is located in Maranello, Italy and reports to the Chief Designer. Leads, consults and advises Haas F1 on composite design and best practices. Directs a group of designers to develop and continuously improve the car quality, reliability and performance of the composite components. Assists planning and strategy for component/assembly development and race introduction.
General Responsibilities:Mentor, train and guide personnel as required. Develop staff using effective performance reviews and development plans.Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.Responsible for establishing standard operating procedures and budgets to maintain a practical yet functional department.Other duties as assigned by the Chief Designer.Key Responsibilities:Lead the Composite Design Group in the design of F1 car components/assemblies.Seek continuous improvement in the design execution and associated processes with prime focus on car performance.Provide leadership and guidance to the Composite Design Group.Develop composite design group workload plans in consultation with business partners.Nurture the relationship with the Aero and Structural design department to support and achieve their targets for quality/compliance/strength/weight targets.Lead all composite concept development.Ensure that composite projects are delivered on time as per agreed planning.Liaise and support the Race Team concerning car reliability resolution.Responsible for all composite design 3D/2D CAD checking and sign-off.Perform necessary research and development functions.Follow and enforce all safety regulations in all venues.Other duties as assigned by the Chief Designer or his designee.Education and Work Experience:Graduated in Mechanical engineering with a very strong knowledge of composite materials.Minimum of 12 years experience working within composite design in F1.Previous experience as a design project leader for main composite structures – chassis/gearbox/nose/wings.Previous experience in managing a large group of designers/department.FEA understanding and experience is also a plus.Specialized Knowledge and Skills:Excellent organization and ability to manage multiple projects.Strong English verbal and written communication skills required; Italian language fluency is preferred.Ability to lead composite design projects from concept to completion.Prioritizes and pursues vehicle performance.Strong knowledge of the F1 technical regulations.Strong knowledge of composite materials and production techniques.Equipment and Applications:Microsoft Office Suite.This job description may not detail some less major duties, nor cover duties of a similar nature, which may from time to time be reasonably required by the relevant manager.
